WVMBA News Letter: AUG/SEPT
A Series Update from WVMBA's Executive Director, J.R. Petsko
|
Many of the top five positions in all of the classes have not been settled and it will all come down to what happens at the "Dirt Derby." Check the points standings!
The point series may be ending, but that doesn't not mean that it's time to put away the mountain bike just yet.
Ultra Fun...
The Ultra series still has it's best two races to go with the Big Bear Ultra on Sept. 13 and the world famous Revenge of the Rattlesnake on Sept.27.
The Big Bear race will be a 50 mile course with 37 miles of it being single-track!!!
The Rattlesnake will be a killer point to point race this year from Timberline to Blackwater Bikes. The race will also feature a trip though Dolly Sods North. This could be the last ever event on that piece of land before it become a wilderness area.
Two Newbies Join the Ranks...
If Ultras are just too much for you WVMBA also has two brand new cross country races this fall. Join us at the Bob Evans Farm XC race on Sept. 14 and the Creek to Peak on October 5th.
Yes the name says it all for the Bob Evans Farm race. This event takes place on the original Bob Evans Farm in Rio Grande, Ohio. It's a fantastic venue at a fantastic location.
The Creek to Peak race is being hosted by Veteran WVMBA racer, Larry Perkins. With Larry's local connections, he has been able to secure more money and prizes in sponsorship than any other race on the WVMBA calendar this year. I have a feeling that no one will walk away from this one without a prize.
Free Fun Rides are Well Received...
If racing is not your cup of tea WVMBA still has three more sanctioned Fun Rides for 2008. Turn outs have been great so far this year for these FREE events and I'm sure it will continue.
Gary Morefield with be hosting the Tour the Beaver on Sept. 20 at Little Beaver State Park. This ride will also be held in conjunction with the folks from Tire on the Mountain, so look for a great turn out. Contact Ride N Slide Sports at (304) 253-5202 for more info.
On October 4, the Fun Ride moves to Davis, WV for the 11th annual Tour De Lilly. As Roger Lilly would say, "Shut-up and ride." This event is just that simple. Give them a call at Blackwater Bikes (304)259-5286 of you have questions.
October 12, The Fall Colors Tour, the last fun ride for 2008 is in Marlinton, WV and riders are to meet at Dirtbean (http://www.dirtbean.com/. The ride will be lead by Mountain Bike and XTERRA Pro racer Kristy Lanier of Dirtbean.
Last but not least don't forget about the event to end all events, the Bruceton Mills Cyclocross V (fifth annual). This event takes place on the farm of Don and Heather Parks and it's one of the funniest times all year. There's always lots of chili to eat and the course is a blast. Anytime a race course goes though a barn you know it's going to be fun! Let's see if I can do more then 2 laps this year.
Thanks for Your Trail Work...
Recently, all Pay Dirt "Trail Maintenance" sheets were collected and I am super excited to report that 53 riders did a total of 1,197 hours of trail work from Sept. 14, 2007 to Aug 24, 2008. Thank you everyone for making this program such a success. All of are trails are better thanks to you all!
Thank to you all for making my first year as Ex. Director of WVMBA so much fun.
