Snowshoe Road Race
[Snowshoe Time Trial] [Results] [Overall Stage Race Results]
Sunday continued the two day Snowshoe Stage Race road competition. This time the riders raced one another, not the clock. Temperatures never made it out of the lower fifties on Sunday, providing for a second day of brisk winter-like riding in sourthern West Virginia. The cold and the many elevation changes made for one heck of a tough day for the riders.

Category 1-4 racers competed in an 72 mile race. This too, was an out and back course. The course followed the same start as the Citizens' group, but continued on the Highland Scenic Highway until its junction with Rt. 39 at the Cranberry Wilderness Visitor's Center. The riders fought a fierce headwind pretty much the entire race.

Steve Simpson, of New York, won the race for the third year in a row.
He broke away from a pack of 3-4 riders at the Williams River
intersection. As the pack began the next climb away from the river,
Simpson took the lead and continued widening the gap between him and
the others.
